LanceRank is an independent trust and reputation platform for individual freelancers. Think of it as Trustpilot, but for freelancers instead of businesses. LanceRank lets freelancers carry their reputation between platforms — into emails, proposals, LinkedIn profiles, anywhere. ## How LanceRank works There are three sources of trust that combine to produce a single LanceRank Score from 0 to 100: ### 1. Platform synchronisation LanceRank syncs the freelancer's existing reputation from the platforms they already work on. Supported platforms: Upwork, Fiverr, Toptal, Freelancer.com, PeoplePerHour, Guru, 99designs, Contra. The sync happens either via the LanceRank Chrome extension (runs in the freelancer's own browser, with their own platform session, reads public-profile-equivalent data) or via a server-side backup sync (uses ScraperAPI to fetch the freelancer's public profile when the extension cannot run). ### 2. Direct verified client reviews Freelancers can invite past clients to leave verified reviews directly on LanceRank. The invitation requires the client's email, which is verified before the review counts. There is no "anonymous user leaves a public review" button on LanceRank — this is intentional. Reviews on LanceRank are either synced from a platform where the work happened, or invited by the freelancer to verified past clients. ### 3. Vouched offline projects For work that never happened on a platform (direct contracts, agency work, internal projects), freelancers can document the work and request a vouch from the client. The client confirms the project via email. Vouched projects contribute to the score with the same weight category as platform-verified jobs in Track Record. ## How the LanceRank Score is calculated The LanceRank Score is a weighted aggregate of six factors. Track Record averages three sub-signals: total verified jobs (log-scaled to 100 jobs = full marks), tracked earnings (log-scaled to $100K = full marks), and hours logged (log-scaled to 2,000 hours = full marks). Missing fields do not penalise — a Fiverr profile without an "hours" field is averaged on the fields that ARE present. A tenure ramp (years active) reaches full multiplier in 2 years. The volume sub-signal also counts verified direct reviews + client-confirmed offline projects toward "jobs". A Bayesian-smoothed rating across all sources is multiplied in as a quality lift — a 4.9 across 250 reviews beats a 5.0 across 3. ### Recency & Tenure (20% weight, up to 20 points) Sixteen points for active recency (18-month half-life so a senior between contracts is not punished — recency is taken as the MAX across all activity sources) and four points for years of history (5+ years = full marks). The factor reflects both freshness and depth. ### Claimant Credibility (20% weight, up to 20 points) Identity verified via Stripe Identity, LinkedIn OAuth, GitHub OAuth, or LanceRank Chrome extension confirming the freelancer owns the platform profiles they connected. The more proofs carried, the higher this factor scores. Non-platform-derived, so single-platform freelancers can still build a strong score. ### Platform Credibility (10% weight, up to 10 points) MAX across platforms, not sum — the strongest credential wins. One Top Rated Plus on Upwork is full credit; the freelancer does not need it on three platforms. Elite badges (Top Rated Plus, Expert-Vetted, Top Rated Seller) score 10 points; high-tier (Top Rated, Level 2 Seller, Preferred Freelancer) score around 8; mid-tier (Rising Talent, Level 1 Seller) score around 5; a strong Upwork Job Success Score without a badge scores around 7. One platform is enough. ### LinkedIn Endorsements (10% weight, up to 10 points) A 2026-05-22 addition. Pulls skill endorsement counts and LinkedIn profile signals (tenure, listed services, recommendations) — imported through the LanceRank Chrome extension when the freelancer syncs their own LinkedIn profile. Only the freelancer's own profile, only with their active click — never scraped from outside the freelancer's browser. ### Skills (5% weight, up to 5 points) Optional. The freelancer takes a LanceRank skill quiz; passes it; the score-impact value (set per quiz by the LanceRank admin team) lands here. Caps at 5 points across all passed quizzes combined. ### One strong platform is enough There is no multi-platform diversity bonus. The algorithm rewards depth of verified proof on whatever platforms the freelancer actually uses. A single-platform freelancer with deep verified history scores as highly as a multi-platform one with the same total proof. The maximum possible score is 100. ## Score bands (career stages) The 0–100 number gives precision. The career stage gives the verdict at a glance. - 88–100 — Stage 5 — Trusted Leader — Top tier on LanceRank. Score grows fast as work accumulates. ## New freelancers — depth-of-proof chip The score shows from day one and is computed from whatever data exists today. A "backed by N sources" chip beside the number indicates depth of proof so a client can tell a profile with two verified reviews apart from one with two hundred, instead of the number pretending they are the same. Verified items are: connected platform jobs, verified direct reviews, vouched offline projects, and passed skill quizzes. Each new verified item makes the score steadier — the algorithm puts more weight on factors that have more signal behind them. ## Profile pages Every freelancer has a public profile at lancerank.com/. The profile shows: - LanceRank Score (0–100) with a visual ring - Career stage band (Trusted Leader, Verified Pro, Established, Rising, Building) - Backed-by-N-sources depth-of-proof chip - Connected platforms with per-platform rating, review count, and badge tier - Recent verified reviews with source attribution - Vouched offline projects - Skills, hourly rate range, location, bio - Identity verification badges (LinkedIn Confirmed, Verified GitHub, Identity Verified, Platform Verified) Profile pages are designed to be the freelancer's single shareable trust link. They include direct "Hire on Upwork", "Message on Fiverr" buttons that link out to the freelancer's platform profiles. ## Anti-impersonation defences LanceRank takes anti-impersonation seriously. A freelancer cannot claim someone else's reputation by creating an account with their name: - Path-C gate: scraped reputation data is hidden from the public profile until the freelancer proves URL-bound platform ownership (must be logged into the platform AS the scraped username, verified via the Chrome extension's assertOwnerOnOwnProfile check) - Name-mismatch guard: the scraper refuses to write platform data if the scraped name doesn't plausibly match the LanceRank account name - Identity stack: Stripe Identity (legal name verification), LinkedIn name-match, and Chrome extension URL-binding all combine to verify identity - Manual review path: when automated verification fails for a legitimate user, an admin can review evidence and manually verify ## Why you can trust the number - Every input is verified.
