The algorithm
The LanceRank Score, explained.
Not a simple star average. A weighted algorithm across six trust factors that measures real credibility — so clients can trust the number.
Your score
0-100
Log-scaled across volume, earnings, and hours, multiplied by a Bayesian rating-quality lift. 4.9 across 250 reviews beats 5.0 across 3. The single hardest thing to fake.
16 points for active-recency (18-month half-life, so a senior between contracts is not punished) plus 4 for years of history. Full marks at 5 years tenure.
Identity verified via Stripe Identity, LinkedIn OAuth, GitHub OAuth, or the LanceRank Chrome extension confirming you own the platform profiles you connected.
Your highest-tier badge across every platform — Top Rated Plus, Toptal Top 3%, Top Rated Seller. One strong credential on any platform is enough.
Skill endorsements plus LinkedIn profile signals (tenure, listed services, recommendations) imported via the Chrome extension on your own profile.
Passed LanceRank skill quizzes. Admins set the score-impact per quiz; capped at 5 points across all passed quizzes.
Where your score comes from
Three sources of verified trust.
Every data point in your LanceRank Score is verified. No self-reported stats. No guesswork.
Scraped Platform Data
Connect your Fiverr, Toptal, Freelancer.com, PeoplePerHour or other freelance-platform profile. We import your ratings, review counts, job history, badges, and earnings data automatically. Re-scraped every 30 days to stay fresh.
Direct Verified Reviews
Any client can leave a review of you on LanceRank — from any context. To be verified, they prove the work happened via invoice, platform link, or payment reference. Unverified reviews are shown but marked.
Client-Confirmed Offline Projects
Add past projects manually. Enter your client's name and email. We send them a 30-second confirmation request. If they confirm, the project gets a "Client-confirmed" badge. If they deny, it's removed. Fraud-proof.
What you're looking at
Every score is a live mirror — not a wall of testimonials.
We don't collect anonymous "leave a review" submissions. Every freelancer's score is continuously synced from the platforms they actually work on (Upwork, Fiverr, Toptal, Freelancer.com, and others). Direct reviews on LanceRank are verified individually — every one tied to a real engagement, with proof at submission. The result: the number you see is mathematically tied to the work that produced it.
Real-time mirror
A freelancer’s rating drops on Upwork, their LanceRank score follows within 24 hours. Wins a Top Rated badge — same. The score reflects current platform reality, not a frozen submission from 2 years ago.
Verified at submission
Every direct review and offline-vouched project required proof — invoice, platform job link, or client-email confirmation — before counting. No anonymous testimonials.
Backed by N sources
Two profiles can both score 84. The chip beneath each score tells you HOW MANY independent verified data points back that number. Trust depth, made visible.
Reading a review
Each review carries trust pills.
Every verified review on a LanceRank profile shows 1-4 small badges. They quietly disclose the provenance of the review — so a client reading the profile knows in a glance how strong each review is, without needing us to manually filter or weight them.
The reviewer used a personal webmail address (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.). Neutral signal — disclosed honestly so the client can weight it themselves.
The reviewer used their company email. Stronger signal — verifiable to a real organisation, harder to fake than a personal address.
The reviewer attached an invoice, receipt, or platform-job link. We don't independently verify the link, but admins spot-check it whenever a review is challenged.
The same client has reviewed this freelancer more than once. A strong qualitative signal at the review level — you cannot fake someone hiring you twice.
