Project Goal: The client aimed to enhance the quality of a lab-recorded image dataset by identifying and removing 'intruders'—duplicate images, air bubbles, and empty frames that compromised the dataset's integrity for machine learning applications. My Contribution: Initially, I implemented the client's suggested Siamese Neural Network (SNN) model to differentiate between intruders and valid images. Upon recognizing its limitations, I pivoted to refine the dataset through comprehensive data cleaning. This ensured uniformity across images, paving the way for more effective model training. Subsequently, I integrated the VGG-16 pre-trained model, renowned for its image classification prowess. With meticulous fine-tuning, the VGG-16 model was tailored to our specific dataset, resulting in significantly enhanced classification accuracy. Project Success: The revised approach was a resounding success. The VGG-16 model, trained on the cleaned and augmented dataset, achieved an outstanding 98.52% accuracy in intruder detection. This project stands as a testament to the importance of adaptive problem-solving in data science and the value of precision in dataset preparation to support high-performing machine learning models.
